As you all know, Mrs. Neuls loved music (she was still teaching at age 84!) and brought the gift of music to many of our lives. We remember how diligently Mrs. Neuls would prepare us for all our musical encounters, from our Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) exams to competition in the Calgary Kiwanis Music Festival. During her lifetime, Mrs. Neuls made regular donations to sponsor a scholarship with the Calgary Kiwanis Music Festival for the “Two Hand Piano Class” and we remember how much she always enjoyed playing with others in duets or two piano pieces. According to those who knew her well, it was something that she always wanted to continue ever after – to support young musicians. Therefore, we thought a wonderful way to honor her memory and passion for music would be to permanently establish a scholarship in her name with the Calgary Kiwanis Music Festival.We are trying to raise a total of $2300 Canadian to fund the “Fern Neuls Memorial Scholarship.” The money would go into a trust account with the Calgary Kiwanis Music Festival and be used to award $100 per year in perpetuity to winners in the “Two Hand Piano Class” at the Calgary Kiwanis Music Festival. April Maa, a former student of Mrs. Neuls, is coordinating this effort.
